About Cavaliers

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a delightfully affectionate, playful, intelligent little dog that repays his owner's love, care and attention with an endearing devotion. The Cavalier is a much admired Royal Spaniel having been known in Europe and Great Britain.

Living up to his nicknames "royal comforter spaniel" and "spaniel gentle", the Cavalier was very popular with the ladies who used them as comforters by laying them on their laps or feet during their long carriage rides.

The Cavalier first appeared in England with the reign of Queen Mary the First. The breed appears in many of the paintings with King Charles II who was always surrounded by them.

Even though Cavaliers are sporting dogs, they make excellent pets, being very devoted, happy, loving and great with children. You would have a hard time finding a dog with a better temperament. Cavaliers are very intelligent and ready to absorb anything you are willing to teach them. They are always eager to please.

The Cavalier comes in four colors:
Blenheim:  Bright chestnut red markings broken up on a pearly white background; Tri Color:  Jet black markings broken up on a pearly white background with tan markings over the eyes, on the sides of the muzzle and the undersides of the ears; Ruby: A Wholecolor being a rich red; and Black and Tan:  Jet black with rich tan markings over the eyes, on the sides of the muzzle, chest, on the stomach and the undersides of the ears.

Autumnsanz is located in Cropwell, AL. We are a very small show breeder.  Since we only have a couple of litters a year, we breed very selectively.  Because we care deeply about the breed, all of our Cavaliers are heart and eye certified by a vet Cardiologist and Ophthalmologist, their hips/patellas are certified by my vet.  We provide excellent information on the Cavalier's Health Problems.

Our Cavaliers are not crated, nor do they live in a kennel.  They live in our home with a lot of daily attention and love.  This is why we have very socialized puppies with excellent temperaments.  If the weather is pretty and nice, they go outside and play in the grassy yard.  When we have puppies, we are very thorough in selecting the right home for them.  For this reason, we never advertise, but welcome inquiries.  Our puppies stay with us until they are 12 weeks old.  At that time, they will have had 2 sets of shots, 3 wormings, vet checked, Ophthalmologist CERF'd and are litter box trained.  Since we have bought our foundation from very well known breeders, we do not sell any puppies for breeding.  If I do not keep the pup for show, then the pup I sell must be spayed or neutered and I do require proof of this procedure from your vet.

As with any puppy you purchase, you really need to do your homework.  Never take a breeder's word on health certifications, ask to see them yourself.  Ask to see the parents (so you can see their temperament) and the pups environment.  Don't take your children along to see the puppies.  They will fall in love with any puppy, then you could make a wrong decision to make your children happy.  All puppies are precious - whether full bred or mutt - so go with an educated decision instead of a heart felt decision.  If you are buying a puppy long distance, ask for references from their vet and previous buyers.  I have dedicated a page -  Information You Should Know - that will explain what to look for in a breeder.  If you buy a puppy from a puppy mill/broker/importer, then you are only helping them stay in business.  Puppies that are purchased from puppy mills live in deplorable conditions, outside in the extreme hot/cold weather, dirty water (if any), being fed cheap food in dirty food bowls, with the least amount of vet/human attention, being bred time after time without a break until they are very old.  Puppies that come from brokers/importers come from puppy mills outside of the country.    If the mom of the puppies is not there where the puppies are living, then you are dealing with a broker/importer.
